Francis (played by Beattie Edmondson) seems to be having a rough time lately, with career setbacks and a breakup, and to make matters worse, her grandmother has passed away. Out of necessity, Francis adopts her grandmother's beloved dog—a pug named Patrick. Francis doesn't particularly like animals, and her apartment has strict rules against pets, making her anxious about having Patrick around. Furthermore, Patrick is quite the handful; he's greedy and mischievous, constantly causing trouble for Francis, leading her to wonder if he’s been sent by fate to punish her. Although having a dog presents various challenges, it also brings a lot of joy. During her time with Patrick, Francis meets the handsome veterinarian Oliver (played by Ed Skrein) and dog lover Arvin (played by Tom Bennett), and the expansion of her social circle gradually helps her move on from her previous life as a bitter person.
