The story takes place in Berlin in 1989, where Layman (Christian Ulmen) is a slacker who spends his days aimlessly, immersed in alcohol and drugs with no achievements to show. One day, Layman is shocked to learn that his parents, who are far away, are coming to visit him. To avoid disappointing them, Layman seeks help from his friend Karl (Detlev Buck). Karl lends his restaurant to Layman, who pretends to be the restaurant manager, which impresses Layman's parents. Meanwhile, Layman encounters a chef named Katrin (Katja Danowski), and a passionate spark ignites between them.
