Takezaburo Watanabe (played by Hiroshi Abe), nicknamed "Old Watanabe," is a middle-aged professional con artist with a wealth of experience. He unexpectedly meets Irukawa Tetsumi, an unimpressive and slow-witted man nicknamed "Old Tetsu" (played by Shoji Murakami), and brings him into the conning world as his partner. They traverse various urban corners, deceiving people at banks, racecourses, and pawn shops. Both men, with a past they would rather forget, support each other while living a mundane life at the bottom of society. One day, this duo crosses paths with sisters Yahi Kawai (played by Satomi Ishihara) and Maki Kawai (played by Reina Triendl), as well as a boy named Kanta Ishiya (played by Yuto Koyanagi). Together, these five individuals, who all hail from the fringes of society, form a somewhat awkward makeshift family as they move toward a turning point in their lives... This film is adapted from the novel of the same name by Shuseki Doo, the winner of the 2011 Naoki Prize.
