This film consists of five short stories that take place simultaneously in different countries, each describing a brief encounter between a taxi driver and a passenger. Los Angeles, 7:07 PM, tomboy driver Corky (Winona Ryder) is taking her passenger Victoria (Gena Rowlands) back to the hotel. It just so happens that Victoria, who is responsible for casting a film, has taken a liking to Corky, but Corky tells her she wants to be a mechanic... New York, 10:07 PM, young Black man Yuyu finally hails a taxi, only to find that the driver is a foreign elderly man named Helmut (Armin Mueller-Stahl) who cannot drive and speaks no English. Yuyu has no choice but to suggest that he will drive... Paris, 4:07 AM, a young Black driver kicks out two African passengers who insult him, and a beautiful blind woman (Béatrice Dalle) gets in. He immediately feels curiosity and pity for her, only to find that she is better at navigating the world than he is. ... This film is written, directed, and produced by Jim Jarmusch, who completed the script in about eight days, with the locations chosen based on the actors he wanted to work with. The film's soundtrack comes from his long-time collaborator, folk master Tom Waits.
