Beth (Kristen Bell), the young modern art curator at the Guggenheim Museum in New York, is a workaholic. She is skeptical about her sister's whirlwind romance and quickie wedding but still makes time to fly to Rome, Italy, for the wedding. At the wedding, Beth falls for former football player Nicholas (Josh Duhamel) but is heartbroken when she sees him kiss another girl by an ancient love-wishing fountain. Disappointed, Beth, in a drunken state, jumps into the wishing fountain to loudly scold the statue of Cupid, and collects three coins and a poker chip thrown by others to bring back to the U.S. Unexpectedly, the old Italian legend comes to life, and the men who owned the coins start to obsessively pursue her. Meanwhile, Beth has to manage the pressure from her boss, Sally (Anjelica Huston), to ensure the success of the museum's annual fundraising gala. At a critical moment, Nicholas comes to the rescue, and just as Beth falls happily in love, she realizes that the poker chip she picked up from the wishing fountain actually belongs to Nicholas. Is it true love or a false affection? Beth is in great pain...
