At a family gathering, the Cooper family discovers that their parents' house has been foreclosed. As a result, the mother temporarily stays at her son George's home, while the father moves in with his daughter Cora. The arrival of the parents disrupts the previously stable lives of their children, leaving the question of where the elderly will ultimately reside.
"Song of Tomorrow" is a heartfelt work by the famous American director Leo McCarey, listed in the 75 overlooked masterpieces in film history by the British magazine Sight & Sound. Leo McCarey, along with Frank Tashlin and Ernst Lubitsch, are three of the most important comedy directors of early sound films in America, and Chinese audiences are familiar with "The Awful Truth," "Duck Soup" (1931), "The Milky Way," and "An Affair to Remember," all of which are masterpieces from this great director. Many consider "Song of Tomorrow" to be his most outstanding work. It is said to have indirectly inspired Yasujiro Ozu's immortal "Tokyo Story," and watching both films together is quite intriguing.
