Makita Hiroshi (played by Ryo Kase) works as an administrative veterinarian at an animal protection center; however, his primary job is to humanely euthanize stray cats and dogs that are not adopted by the deadline. While this work has its significance and value, it brings tremendous psychological burden to Makita and his colleagues, with Handa Aki (played by Eriko Todani) even seeking help from a placebo for mental comfort. Despite the inner pain, Makita continues to carry out his work day after day. One day, a woman named Takano Ayako (played by Yuko Tanaka) becomes the new director, bringing about a dramatic transformation in the animal protection center. Takano starts to name the stray animals and cares for them attentively, an idea that Makita wouldn't even dare to think about, because giving them names would create attachments, which only increases his suffering. However, gradually, Takano's optimistic attitude begins to infect Makita and his team, prompting them to think of ways to avoid the animals being euthanized.
