Lin Shuling (played by Yang Yanyan) moves from Malaysia to Singapore with her husband (played by Li Mingshun). Lin Shuling is a Chinese teacher, but in Singapore, the education system undervalues Chinese education, which makes her unappreciated at school. Meanwhile, Lin Shuling's marriage is also not going smoothly; after many years of marriage, the couple has been unable to have children, which becomes a frequent source of arguments between them. When her father-in-law suffers a stroke, Lin Shuling, as the daughter-in-law, takes on most of the caregiving responsibilities, which leaves her feeling overwhelmed. Guo Weilin (played by Xu Jiale) is Lin Shuling's student; they meet through her Chinese class, and during tutoring sessions, feelings that transcend the teacher-student relationship gradually develop between Lin Shuling and Guo Weilin.
