Set in 1970s New York, the film follows a pair of brothers connected by "blood ties": Chris, played by Clive Owen, a gang member, and Frank, played by Billy Crudup, a police officer. As the movie begins, Chris has just been released from prison, and Frank brings him home, helps him find a job, and reconnects him with his ex-wife and children. However, as Chris gradually returns to his old gang life, the inevitable conflict between the brothers erupts. Despite their opposing positions and vastly different lives, their fates remain tightly bound by blood.
