Dignan (Owen Wilson) dreams of becoming a great criminal and recruits his friend Anthony (Luke Wilson), who has just finished treatment in a psychiatric hospital, along with a stoner named Bob (Robert Musgrave) to form a hastily assembled gang. Starting with a warm-up by stealing from Anthony's house, these would-be criminals practice their shooting and plan routes, eventually succeeding in robbing a bookstore. Excited to join the ranks of criminals, Dignan and his crew escape in a car and hide in a motel, where Anthony falls for a Uruguayan waitress, while Bob is unsettled by news of his brother's imprisonment. As Anthony and the waitress's romance blossoms, Bob abandons them to return home, and Dignan and Anthony finally disband, returning to their peaceful lives. However, Dignan has not given up on his dream of crime and seeks help from his idol, gangster Henry...
