This film is based on true events. Jean-Claude Van Damme plays a kung fu master who must fight for his life in a no-holds-barred boxing match. Van Damme portrays Frank, who participates in an illegal underground fight held in Kowloon, Hong Kong, hoping to become the first Westerner to win the event. However, after his first victory, Frank discovers that his troubles are not just about how to win the championship; intelligence agents want him to withdraw from the competition, a beautiful reporter wants to tell his story, not to mention that his opponent wants him dead! The film "Bloodsport," starring Jean-Claude Van Damme for the first time in 1986, was shot in Hong Kong with a low production budget of only $1.5 million. After completion, it was shelved for two years due to its poor overall effect, until Van Damme personally re-edited it and pleaded with the producers for it to be released in theaters in 1988. "Bloodsport" unexpectedly became a big hit, grossing $30 million worldwide, and Van Damme experienced fame on the international film scene. This film is adapted from the legendary experiences of karate figure Frank Dux.
