The story begins in 1898 in a city named La Coruña in northwest Spain. Marcela (played by Greta Fernández) is a new student at a convent, where she meets a girl named Elisa (played by Natalia de Molina). The two girls quickly form a deep friendship, which gradually transforms into innocent love. This forbidden relationship was, of course, not accepted at the time. In an effort to separate them, Marcela's father sends her to another school in Madrid. Three years pass in the blink of an eye, and Elisa is now a teacher in a small village, while Marcela resolutely goes to find her. The two lovers finally reunite. However, ultimately, their love cannot withstand societal judgment, and Elisa chooses to leave, while Marcela marries a man.
