Johnny (played by Emile Hirsch) is a young and notorious drug dealer in the San Gabriel Valley of Los Angeles, living a carefree and lavish life with his gang on the unjust gains from drug trafficking. One day, while driving around with friends, Johnny accidentally encounters a boy named Zack (played by Anton Yelchin), who is the brother of Jake (played by Ben Foster). Jake owes Johnny a large sum of money, and as a half-serious, half-joking act, Johnny "kidnaps" Zack. During his time with Johnny, Zack doesn’t experience life as a "hostage"; he enjoys himself, unaware that his mother, Olivia (played by Sharon Stone), is on the brink of a breakdown, not knowing the truth. As time passes, the situation gradually spirals out of Johnny's control, and he realizes that he has unknowingly become a target.
