A series of violent and bloody incidents have occurred in Paris, plunging the entire city into extreme panic. The two major departments of the Paris police, BRI and BRB, are openly vying to bring the series of criminals to justice. However, the two teams have completely different working styles, and the vacant position of the head of the 36th precinct has become the catalyst for their brutal competition. BRI's chief officer Leo (played by Daniel Auteuil) goes so far as to help informants hide murder crimes to obtain intelligence, while BRB's chief officer Dennis (played by Gérard Depardieu) is willing to do anything to capture the robbers for personal advancement, looking for opportunities to undermine Leo. Eventually, Dennis reports Leo, leading to Leo's conviction of eight years in prison, resulting in his wife's death. With a moral line thrown off balance and the truth behind the crimes exposed, Leo, upon his release, decides to launch a ruthless revenge against Dennis. Based on true events, "Police Story" won several nominations, including Best Film at the 30th César Awards in 2005, and became one of the top ten box office hits in France that year, often referred to as the French version of "Infernal Affairs."
