Beloved by students and enjoying a thriving career, classical philosophy professor Bill Kincaid (played by Edward Norton) rushes back to his hometown of Dickson, a small town in Tulsa, Oklahoma, upon hearing the news of his twin brother Brady's (also played by Edward Norton) death. Brady's friend, Borg (Tim Blake Nelson), is responsible for picking him up at the airport, and upon arriving home, Bill discovers that Brady did not die from a crossbow bolt. Although angry, Bill agrees to visit their mother (Susan Sarandon), whom he hasn't seen for over a decade, in a nursing home the following day. Brady shows Bill around his self-designed seventh-generation soil-less hydroponic cannabis setup and introduces him to Janet (Keri Russell), the local high school English teacher. Just as Bill plans to return to school, he learns he has become embroiled in a murder case involving a Jewish drug lord (Richard Dreyfuss)...
