The film takes place in 1905 aboard a battleship named Potemkin, which was once the pride of the Tsarist Navy, but due to months of poor food, it led to a mutiny. The living conditions for sailors on the Tsarist Navy's Potemkin were extremely harsh, subjected to inhumane treatment. For several months, the sailors' food was terrible, with the supplied beef even infested with maggots, causing extreme discontent among the sailors. Some sailors instigated a revolt, but were repressed by the officers.
