Lulu (Louise Brooks) is a prostitute, and her lover, Mr. Alwa, is over fifty years old and has a child, Alwa. Mr. Alwa is set to marry the daughter of a doctor, but Lulu, unwilling to accept this, forces him to marry her. Mr. Alwa, left with no choice, marries her.
