Young Professor X Charles (James McAvoy) and Magneto Erik (Michael Fassbender) are like-minded friends. They were among the first to discover their superpowers and worked with several other mutants at the CIA. Nazi war profiteer Shaw (Kevin Bacon), who triggered Erik's abilities, has been trying to incite a nuclear war while stirring tensions between the U.S. and the Soviet Union. Erik and Charles have been battling the mutants under Shaw's command to stop his plan. Shaw incites the Soviet Union to spark the Cuban Missile Crisis, and after learning this, Charles and Erik face off against Shaw's mutants in a battle in the bay. Ultimately, Shaw is defeated by the combined efforts of Charles and Erik. However, during this process, Erik gradually becomes influenced by Shaw's political views, leading to a rift with Charles. Through this battle in the bay, Erik and Charles ultimately part ways, with one becoming the X-Men supporting peaceful coexistence between humans and mutants; the other insists on eliminating humans to ensure the rise of mutants, calling himself Magneto...
