Actresses Liz, Marianna, and Gunilla, while rehearsing the ancient Greek play "Lysistrata," find themselves involuntarily relating the characters' experiences to their personal lives. This association leads them to start reflecting on their relationships with their husbands and their views on men. Liz's husband is a rude stockbroker who demands that Liz leave the stage and stay at home. This reflects Liz's conflict between career and family, as well as her struggles between her husband's expectations and her own pursuits. Marianna lives with an older doctor and has a child. The doctor is reluctantly divorcing his wife to live with her. This subplot reflects her complicated emotional situation and the balance between family and career. Gunilla's husband is perpetually depressed, while she is busy working and taking care of five children. Her life appears filled with responsibilities and challenges, which may influence her views on marriage and men. Throughout the tour, the three actresses begin to discuss their relationships with their husbands and their impressions and views on men.
