In 1969 London, two actors, Withnail and Marwood, who are in a "period of dormancy" (unemployed and without contracts), are living in a damp, cold environment filled with dishwashers, fervent drug dealers, and mad Irishmen. They decide to leave this filthy place for the countryside to enjoy rustic life at Withnail's uncle Monty's cottage. However, when they arrive, it rains all day, there is no food, and their basic survival skills are lacking. Thankfully, Uncle Monty's arrival resolves the troubles they face, but a new problem arises: Monty seems overly enthusiastic about Marwood... Behind the scenes/Trivia This film is considered one of the best British comedies and a classic among students, often referenced. Withnail and I tells the story of two down-and-out actors in London during the last months of the 1960s as they struggle to escape drugs, alcohol, and degradation to see the beautiful scenery of the Lake District.
