After her father tragically dies in a construction accident, 17-year-old Ola travels to Ireland to bring his body back to their home in Poland. Throughout Ola's life, her father has been an absent figure, so initially, she is not concerned about what kind of life he had in Ireland; she is preoccupied with her father's promise to buy her a car and wants to know if he had saved enough money for it. Ola continually uses the "street smarts" she learned in her hometown to negotiate with foreign bureaucrats, and in the process, she gradually realizes that what she cares about most is not the car, but rather what kind of person her father truly was.
