"Beast Path" tells the story of a girl named Ai Yi (played by Satomi Ishihara), who is abandoned by her mother, a superstitious believer in various religious groups, and spends seven years in an orphanage. She is then placed in a middle school but still remains unadopted. Ai Yi drops out midway and has been taken in by families from the lower social strata and middle-class homes, yet she can never settle down. The only person who understands Ai Yi is a boy named Ryota (played by Kenta Suga), who likes her and is also an orphan waiting to be adopted. Eventually, Ryota becomes a thief, while Ai Yi falls into a life of debauchery, their innocence consumed by a city as wild as a jungle. This is a heartbreaking black comedy.
