The latest work by veteran Taiwanese director Wang Tong showcases his talent in portraying characters from the lower strata of society. Through an incident involving the theft of door gods, it reveals different facets of Taiwanese society. A-Lung (Shi Ying) has been running the "West Suo Mi Band" for forty years, but due to changing times, team members have gradually left, putting the band in a major crisis, and he doesn't know how to improve. His elder son A-Hui (Xiao Kang) drifts through life every day without a plan for the future, while his younger son A-Ming, who suffers from polio and has difficulty walking, develops a quirky and closed-off personality, keeping a flock of pigeons to escape the challenges of interpersonal relationships. A-Hui has a good friend, A-Gou (Zhang Ruizhe), a metal gate welder whose father is bedridden after a stroke. A-Gou rides a flashy motorcycle and uses the latest smartphone, often taking A-Hui to pubs to experience the vibrant nightlife. One day, A-Gou inadvertently learns that the two door gods at a small temple in the village are valuable antiques. In need of money, he and A-Hui steal the door gods and sell them to a pawn dealer. After getting the money, they look for more opportunities to steal. After installing iron gates for a wealthy family, A-Gou breaks into a place to steal a valuable Buddha statue. When he goes to the pawn dealer's company to sell the statue, he discovers that the dealer has been shot dead. Just as A-Gou picks up the gun next to the dealer, the police arrive, and in a panic, A-Gou escapes with the gun. A-Lung wins a lottery and pays for tickets with the prize. A group travels to New York, and while dining in a Chinese restaurant, they see the stolen door gods displayed as decorations. The group raises funds to buy the door gods and bring them back to Taiwan. Unable to resist the advances of the boss's wife, A-Gou has an affair with her. When the boss returns and a fight ensues, A-Gou, in desperation, brandishes a gun to threaten the boss and escapes the factory. After the boss reports to the police, they deem A-Gou a dangerous criminal and issue a wanted notice. A-Gou hides in the pigeon cage on A-Hui's rooftop when the police arrive in force to surround him. Under intense pressure, the vulnerable A-Hui crazily opens fire on the police. Amidst the gunfire, A-Hui and A-Ming are injured, and A-Gou is shot dead.
