The Grim Reaper arrives in the mortal world, residing behind a wall without a doorway, where the souls of the dead pass through to another realm. A couple encounters the Grim Reaper, and the man is taken away. The woman begs the Grim Reaper to spare her lover's life. The Grim Reaper grants her three chances to save her beloved's life, leading her through three separated lives and deaths in medieval Venice, ancient Persia, and a fantastical China... The imaginative visuals caused "Fate" to take two years to reach the United States, simply because the big star Douglas Fairbanks purchased the American rights to this film, borrowing its spectacular special effects for his own major film "The Moon Palace," and only after the release period of "The Moon" ended was it arranged to be shown in the U.S.
