Takaharu Koza (played by Jun Kunimura) lives in Nishiyoshino Village, Nara Prefecture, with his family of five: his mother, wife, sister, son Eiki, and daughter Michi, leading a quiet life in this forest area far from towns. The long-awaited plan to build a railway has finally been implemented, and in order to construct it, Koza vehemently discourages those who want to leave the village. However, the railway construction is halted, and the tunnel that had already begun is left abandoned there. 15 years later, Koza has lost his ability to work, and the family’s livelihood relies entirely on the income of Eiki (played by Kotaro Shibata). Michi (played by Machiko Ono) has a vague love for Eiki, while Eiki secretly loves his aunt. One day, Koza leaves home with his beloved 8mm camera and never returns. Will this family remain on this land?
