Stéphane (Gael García Bernal) is a young man full of imagination and fresh ideas. He comes from Mexico to France and, with the help of his relatives, finds a dull and mechanical office job. Stéphane loves to dream, where he experiences all sorts of wonderful things; he is very shy and reserved around girls. One day, Stéphane moves in a new neighbor—an endearing girl with the same name: Stéphanie (Charlotte Gainsbourg). Stéphane discovers that her imaginative talent is surprisingly similar to his own. They interact in a way that belongs only to them, and thus their fateful connection begins.
