Clarice Cliff (played by Phoebe Dynevor) is a lively young factory worker in the industrial Midlands of England during the 1920s. Her creativity and ambition drive her from one factory to another, impacting the family economy she shares with her widowed mother, Ann (played by Kerry Fox), and her youngest sister, Dot (played by Darci Shaw). Her bursts of creative ideas about color and shape come with increasing risks, yet she manages to stay ahead in the factory and impresses the eccentric factory owner (played by Matthew Goode) with her talent and innovation. Under the guidance of the renowned art designer Fred Richwen (played by David Morrissey), and with the support of the factory owner and female workers, Clarice creates the unprecedented Art Deco "Bizarre" collection. During the Great Depression, she secures the factory's survival and ensures her future as one of the greatest Art Deco designers.
