This animated film is adapted from a story that circulated among fishermen between the Opium War and the Boxer Rebellion. The imperialists occupied the ports of China and forbade fishermen from going to sea to fish, yet they still had to pay fishing taxes. An old fisherman, driven by the need to survive, took the risk of crossing the blockade line to fish on a stormy night. However, after working hard through the night, he only caught a white marble fish basin with a painting of a fisherboy. Little did he know that this fish basin was a treasure; while he slept soundly that night, the fisherboy jumped out of the basin and began to fish, "catching" many large and bright pearls for him. The next day, the old fisherman went to the market to sell the pearls, telling everyone about this miraculous event. When a foreign missionary heard and secretly witnessed this treasure, he schemed to seize it for himself.
