On a land reclamation site along the coastline of Singapore, worker Wang Bicheng has gone missing. Two detectives arrive in response, searching for Wang Bicheng’s whereabouts around the site. In a manic atmosphere and sleepless nights, the detectives see Wang Bicheng in their dreams, and the unsettling truth will unfold in a humid, surreal world where reality and illusion are hard to distinguish. Young Singaporean director Yang Xiuhua collaborates with veteran actor Hong Rong and "An Elephant Sitting Still" leading actress Guo Yue to unveil the survival plight of undocumented migrant workers along Singapore's coast within a story structure that blurs the lines between reality and fantasy. Beneath the noir film aesthetic, intertwining saxophone music and neon lights, and a narrative method that switches perspectives, create a dreamlike spatial experience. The story background is extremely realistic, while the visual style is melancholic and detached, leading the audience away from stereotypical imaginations of Singapore and probing into the real anxieties of contemporary Singapore in a fragmented sense of time.
