This art film is a puppet show. "Mr. Dong Guo" comes from the story in Ming Dynasty by Ma Zhongxi, "The Legend of the Zhongshan Wolf," which tells how Mr. Dong Guo helps the Zhongshan wolf, only to be nearly harmed by it. Mr. Dong Guo, kind-hearted, is traveling on a donkey with a bag of books when an injured wolf runs up to him, claiming to be a good wolf being chased by hunters, begging for his life. Feeling pity, Mr. Dong Guo empties his bag of books to let the wolf hide inside. When the hunters arrive and inquire about the wolf, he claims not to know. As soon as the wolf emerges from the bag, its true nature is revealed, saying it has been cooped up for half a day and is starving, demanding Mr. Dong Guo to be a good person and make him his meal. Just when Mr. Dong Guo is frightened and at a loss, a farmer arrives and comes up with a clever plan to deal with the wolf. Mr. Dong Guo learns that being kind must be done with discernment.
