In the spring of 1871, a Japanese ambassador, protected by two samurai, traveled by train across the American continent to the capital, Washington, to present a priceless military sword given by the Emperor of Japan to the President of the United States. The train was ambushed by the notorious bandit Link and his accomplice Gosh, and the sword was stolen. Gosh, wanting to keep the treasure for himself, plotted to kill Link.
