In 1998, the capital of Afghanistan, Kabul, was ruthlessly devastated by the Taliban. Under a regime that discriminated against women, two couples, who originally had no connection, found their lives changed due to an unexpected event. Although she is an artist wearing a burqa, she yearns to hold hands and embrace her beloved husband freely on the streets. He, who is the head of a Taliban women's prison, grows increasingly distant from his wife, who suffers from a terminal illness, and suddenly realizes that the freedom outside the burqa is merely an illusion. If he could love again, he would pursue it like a moth to a flame. This film is adapted from the eponymous novel by Algerian writer Yasmina Khadra and uses a simple watercolor texture to highlight the heavy human rights issues.
