An elderly woman, Zhou Jin (played by Ge Zhaomei), who lives alone in a rural area by the canal, suddenly gets diagnosed with a brain tumor, and her children, who have been living away, must return home to care for her. The eldest daughter, Su Nianzhen (played by Liu Dan), runs a study abroad consultation agency in Shanghai and is going through her second divorce; she insists on giving her mother the best treatment.
