During the period of Japanese rule in Taiwan, a legendary story of an anti-Japanese hero. Hot-blooded youth Yang Abao (played by Wang Rong) confronts Japanese police to uphold justice for his compatriots. Traitor Pan Dazhi covets Abao's fiancée, Deng Feng (played by Ling Yin), and in a fit of rage, Abao kills Pan Dazhi and injures the Japanese police chief. Abao flees alone to the Malan Forest in Taitung, where he falls in love with local mountain girl Yu Sanmei (played by Ling Bo), but the Japanese police are in pursuit… Director Ding Shanxi filmed on location in the forests of Taiwan, showcasing beautiful mountain scenery; the portrayal of Ling Bo as the mountain girl is rare, combining wildness and simplicity.
