At the end of the Qing Dynasty, the Divine Strike technique of the Boxers became popular and was performed in the palace, earning rewards from Empress Dowager Cixi. As the Republic of China began, little apprentice Xiao Qian (played by Wang Yu) followed his master wandering the jianghu with the Divine Strike technique. One day, after his master got heavily drunk, Xiao Qian was dragged by the crowd to summon spirits. Although Xiao Qian lacked divine power, he was skilled in martial arts; a performance combining monkey fist and props fooled the audience but offended the boxing master overseeing the event, leading to him being chased out of town. Xiao Qian then wandered to a small town, where he began to make a name for himself after using Divine Strike to help a little beggar. His personality, which cannot stand injustice, led him into countless troubles, but also brought him to meet the clever girl Jin Lian (played by Lin Zhenqi). Thus began the adventures of this pure-hearted and just pair as they tackled the challenges between the realms of the living and the dead in town. Of course, Xiao Qian would not miss any opportunity to fill his stomach while helping others...
