Street rogue Wei Xiaobao (played by Wang Yu) accidentally enters the palace and unexpectedly becomes close friends with Emperor Kangxi (played by Liu Jiahui). He then becomes a loyal minister to Kangxi, helping him strategize and eliminate the internal threat, Ao Bai. In no time, he rises to a high official position, and the former street rogue finally makes a name for himself. However, things are not always smooth for Xiaobao; due to being saved by the leader of the Heaven and Earth Society, Chen Jinnan, he becomes Chen's apprentice. One of his major tasks in the palace is to help the Heaven and Earth Society acquire the Forty-Two Chapters Classic from the Empress Dowager. Given the significance of the classic, not only the Heaven and Earth Society and the Divine Dragon Sect but even Kangxi want to find it. Xiaobao navigates through various forces with ingenuity and ultimately succeeds in escaping.
