While walking by the sea, Robert (played by Derrick De Marney) unexpectedly discovers a woman's corpse, and the scene of him with the body is witnessed by two girls who call the police. What Robert does not expect is that the murder weapon is actually the belt from his own trench coat, which was stolen earlier and is now missing. The police, of course, do not believe Robert's story, and he is forced to stand trial, awaiting the impending judgment. Robert, feeling indignant, gathers his courage to escape from the courtroom and accidentally meets the daughter of the police inspector, Erica (played by Nova Pilbeam). The kind-hearted and upright Erica is determined to help Robert find his lost trench coat and uncover evidence that can prove his innocence. Following the clues, they locate the trench coat and learn that the thief has a peculiar habit of blinking constantly, which is an important lead, but there are no further clues. In despair, Robert chooses to surrender, and at this critical moment, the real culprit reveals himself.
