This drama is adapted from the novel of the same name by Yoshiko Kitagawa. Through the final journey, it deeply explores the theme of "why we live." It tells the story of Riku Sakura, who was once a surgeon but suddenly became unable to pick up a scalpel, and was later transferred to internal medicine due to psychological issues. One of his patients, Shō Naruse, has been told he has little time left, and Riku is his attending doctor. Shō, weary of surgery and treatment, asks Riku to end his life.
