Late at night, an eager couple went swimming in a small lake in the park, only to be swept away by a sudden whirlpool. Three years later, the Geological Institute of Natural University organized an expedition to investigate a massive pit that had suddenly appeared on the outskirts of the city. Nina participated in this expedition. Three years ago, Nina had worked in the city’s largest mine—the Fastner Mine, where her father Hess and brother Dick also worked. However, a mining accident three years ago completely changed her family's life; her father narrowly escaped after being trapped for 12 days but witnessed Dick's death, leading the family to distance themselves from the mines and abandon their former life. The discovery of the massive pit reignited Nina's bad feelings, and indeed, through a series of high-tech detection methods, Nina gathered astonishing data indicating that this pit was just the tip of the iceberg, with a much larger collapse imminent. After the mining accident three years ago, the mine’s owner, Montan Energy, claimed they had spent 28 million euros to fill in the mine according to regulations, assuring there would be no collapse issues. But the data Nina possessed was undeniable proof—Montan Energy had only put on a façade; the mines deep underground had not been filled. Through further analysis, Nina predicted that a hospital situated above the mine would collapse within 24 hours, followed by more buildings being swallowed. Nina immediately sought help from the rescue department and boldly proposed using explosives to blast open the sand and gravel layers in the subsurface to fill the surrounding mine's voids. However, the person in charge, Weiland, dismissed her ideas. With no assistance available, Nina decided to take matters into her own hands. Wiesel, Ali, and Joseph had all worked at the Fastner Mine and experienced the disaster, after which they also left the mines. Nina convinced them to form an expedition team to first delve into the depths of the mine and implement the blasting plan. Wiesel was familiar with circuitry, Ali knew the ventilation system, and Joseph was a drilling expert; everything was ready except for a demolition expert. Nina coincidentally encountered her ex-boyfriend Thomas, who was currently a professional demolitions expert at Montan Energy. Thomas readily joined in, and Hess insisted on accompanying them. Thus, a party of six set off. The narrow passageways prevented them from bringing any equipment inside; upon reaching the mine, Nina's predictions were confirmed, and the group split up to search for the abandoned equipment from that time, preparing to drill holes for the explosives. Unexpectedly, Joseph was mysteriously killed. The group arrived at the center of the explosion from that year and saw the broken drill rod No. 16. Hess suddenly understood—it was determined that the accident had been caused by misoperation of drill rod No. 16, leading to the explosion and subsequent mining disaster, and Joseph's body was found in the No. 16 warehouse, meaning he must have seen the day's schedule before his death, thus knowing who the operator was and subsequently meeting his end. Just as Hess suspected, Wiesel was the operator; he admitted to his actions. The blasting proceeded successfully, and a tremendous disaster was courageously averted by Nina and her companions, while Wiesel and Montan Energy received the punishment they deserved.
