This film is adapted from the "Chain Stratagems" in "Romance of the Three Kingdoms," starring four-time Asian film queen Lin Dai as Diao Chan. The story tells of the late Han Dynasty, where the Chancellor Dong Zhuo (played by Luo Wei) abuses power and brings catastrophe to the country, prompting local lords to rise in opposition. Loyal minister Wang Yun (played by Yang Zhiqing) uses Diao Chan's beauty to sow discord between Dong Zhuo and his adopted son Lu Bu (played by Zhao Lei), ultimately leading to a rift between father and son, resulting in Lu Bu killing Dong Zhuo and becoming associated with Diao Chan.
