Officer Edward (played by Nicolas Cage) is on patrol on the highway when he witnesses a tragic car accident. He tries to rescue the girl inside the car and ends up getting injured in the explosion. During his days off, Edward often experiences hallucinations about the girl, relying on medication to cope. One day, Edward receives a letter from his girlfriend Vero, who disappeared years ago. The letter states that she has been living on a secluded island, and her daughter Ronn has recently gone missing. No one on the island is willing to help her, so she turns to Edward for assistance. Coincidentally, her daughter's photo looks almost identical to the girl from the accident. Edward arrives at the remote island filled with doubt. After investigating, he discovers that the island's residents seem to be deliberately hiding the existence of Ronn, and all the evidence appears to be linked to a mysterious local ritual...
