In October 1942, Shella (played by Paolo Briguglia), a philosophy and literature student, arrives as a volunteer to the Italian troops in North Africa stationed in Egypt to prove his bravery. Lieutenant Fiore, the commander of the garrison, becomes despondent and irritable due to the prolonged absence of relief troops.
