Eleven years ago, in 1970s Dublin, Neil McCormick (Ben Barnes) was a schoolboy with a grand rock dream, believing he would one day achieve fame. The lead singer of the school band Hype, Paul, invited Neil's brother Ivan (Robert Sheehan) to join as the guitarist, but competitive Neil believed he and his brother could make a better band, so he rejected Paul on his brother's behalf and formed a band on his own. Subsequently, Paul changed his name to Bono, and Hype rebranded as U2, skyrocketing to success. To become stronger than U2, the McCormick brothers moved to London to seek a record deal, but things didn’t go smoothly and they faced repeated setbacks. Just when they formed the band Shook Up and glimpsed success, Ivan discovered that if it weren't for Neil, he could have been a part of U2... This film is adapted from music critic Neil McCormick's autobiographical novel "I Almost Became Bono."
