In the future, New York, young billionaire Eric Parker (played by Robert Pattinson) sits in a luxurious limousine, protected closely by his bodyguards, heading to a barbershop he has known since childhood. Along the way, he encounters various people and bizarre events: his young wife Alice (played by Sarah Gadon) is emotionally distant, only able to meet him by chance on the street; a middle-aged woman (played by Juliette Binoche) comes to sleep with him and then informs him about art pieces; the continuous appreciation of the yuan causes him to watch his wealth evaporate; Manhattan outside his car windows is gradually descending into chaos, and someone seems to be tracking him, possibly wanting to kill him.
