The story takes place in a certain area of Shanxi. City boy Yang Jin (played by Li Shuchen) has graduated from elementary school. He is quick-witted and can recite all the geographical names of the province clearly. Feeling grown up, he writes a letter to inform his parents that he is going to his grandmother's house. The truth is, he has gone to his good friend Wang Xiaobo's (played by Wang Chen) house in the mountains. Wang Xiaobo has average grades and is usually mischievous.
