In 1947, by the Weihe River in Shandong. The leader of the guerrilla team, Ma Handong (played by Zhao Zimin), is severely injured in the East River defensive battle. He orders the messenger Xiao Chen (played by Sun Yu) to return to the West River headquarters to deliver a message: Chen Xing (played by Hou Jianfu) has defected, and he requests that higher-ups send someone to the East River to reorganize the team and purify the organization. Xiao Chen is tasked with swimming back to the West River but encounters the traitor Chen Xing as soon as he reaches the shore. During the fight, Xiao Chen injures Chen Xing.
