The nationally renowned magician Wang Shou (Ma Jingwu) meets Japanese businessman Turtle田 (Li Ning) while performing his extraordinary act "Catching Projectiles in the Air" with his own troupe in a southern city. Soon after, he unexpectedly encounters Turtle田 again at the city's museum, where his beloved disciple Gao Xiaoli (Liang Danni), Turtle田's assistant, and sculptor Yang Kai (Zhang Yonghan) are also present. Shortly after, two pairs of Han dynasty acrobatic figurines, which are national treasures, are replaced with replicas in the museum. The police handling the case consider Yang Kai and Turtle田 as major suspects since the former had previously forged a pair of Han figurines for the latter. Yang Kai's wife approaches Wang Shou, claiming that Turtle田 is the real perpetrator, and Wang Shou agrees to help Yang Kai clear his name. While interacting with Yang Kai, a past event from 15 years ago resurfaces in Wang Shou's mind: he once stole a sum of cash in RMB from a man while living in Yang Kai's home for survival, and this incident had weighed heavily on his conscience over the years. However, when Wang Shou tries to repay the money, an unintentional revelation comes to light. While assisting his master covertly in investigating Turtle田, Gao Xiaoli finds her former junior brother Bai Jiesheng (Xu Yajun), who was expelled from the school for theft but is now a successful entrepreneur. Feelings develop between them as they interact. Despite investigations from both the police and Wang Shou, Turtle田 remains too cunning and has left no evidence, all while being protected by the deputy mayor. As it seems the national treasure is about to be taken out of the country, Wang Shou finds himself in a dilemma about whether to steal again. Moreover, he is unable to accept Gao Xiaoli's romance with the former "thief."
