Mu Chunhong is a psychotherapist at Beihe City Prison, engaged in psychological counseling, responsible for the psychological guidance and treatment of inmates. Mu Chunhong divorced ten years ago and later remarried Chen Kang, a worker at a coking plant, bringing her daughter Menmen with her. After marriage, Chen Kang took great care of this daughter, and his relationship with Mu Chunhong was quite harmonious. One day, Chen Kang had a fierce argument with the management while trying to help retired workers secure social security, during which he unexpectedly collapsed and was rushed to the hospital. While in a coma, Chen Kang called out a name—“Xiaowen.” This puzzled Mu Chunhong; it turned out that Chen Kang had a son named Chen Bowen, a fact he had kept hidden. After Chen Kang fell ill, Mu Chunhong finally learned this truth… It turned out that Chen Kang went fishing almost every day, although Mu Chunhong doesn’t like eating fish and can’t stand the smell. Nevertheless, she supported Chen Kang’s fishing trips, unaware that he was just waiting outside the prison every day to hear Xiaowen's voice. But with so many people around, he could never find out who Xiaowen was! Soon after, Chen Kang passed away, and Mu Chunhong met Chen Bowen, who was serving his sentence for a mistake made seven years ago. In the process of getting to know Chen Bowen, Mu Chunhong gained a new understanding of Chen Kang and resolved to accept and change Chen Bowen. Chen Kang's greatest wish before his death was to get Chen Bowen's life back on track. Young Chen Bowen had been unable to forgive his father due to his mother Xiufang's tragic accident when Chen Kang was working a night shift. Xiufang was hit by a drunken truck driver while delivering food to him. After making sure she was okay, she allowed the driver to leave, only to never wake up again after returning home. The association of his mother's sudden death with his father created a long-lasting emotional trauma in Chen Bowen. Mu Chunhong saw all this and realized that Chen Kang, even in his dying moments, was still concerned about his son, which must have held extraordinary significance for him. As a female counselor, how can she save the son left by her ex-husband? In the ongoing process of understanding Chen Bowen, Mu Chunhong used her professional skills to help him overcome his shadows while also influencing him like a mother figure in his life. Many of the things she did might not show immediate results, but the impact was profound and gradual. Unbeknownst to her, the kind, simple, independent, and self-respecting Mu Chunhong had already done everything a mother would do… Mu Chunhong taught Chen Bowen how to try to let go of his stubborn positions and thoughts, to see things from others' perspectives. The differences in perspectives and positions can sometimes lead to seeing things differently; if one clings too stubbornly to their own views, they often fail to solve problems and may even deepen their own issues... Thanks to Mu Chunhong’s intervention, Chen Bowen transitioned from resistance to acceptance, experiencing a spiritual cleansing he had never undergone before. Deep down, he still held expectations for the future, but this "lost lamb" needed a kind "shepherd" to guide him back onto the right path… A year later, when Chen Bowen was released, it was Mu Chunhong, along with Chen Lu and Menmen, who were there to meet him at the gate. Looking at Mu Chunhong, Chen Bowen broke into a long-overdue radiant smile, clearly ready to start a new life. Mu Chunhong shouted, “Kids! We’re going home!” Chen Bowen began a new chapter in his life.
