After the Battle of Dan-no-ura, a group of the Taira clan fled to the deep mountains and established the village of Tamataregu. For hundreds of years, they lived a secluded, idyllic life away from the world. However, their peaceful existence was disrupted by a succession of outsiders, as it became widely rumored that Tamataregu was buried with treasures that could allow the Taira clan to rise again. This greed attracted ruthless individuals. Soon, Taira Kiyomori (played by Hiroshi Satoh) arrived with his men to drive away the treasure hunters. Yet, Kiyomori was no benevolent figure; he resorted to cruel methods to force the local clansmen to reveal the treasure's location, sacrificing the innocent in the process. Not long after, Taira's sworn enemy Minamoto no Yoshitsune (played by Yusuke Iseya) arrived with his forces, and the two sides engaged in ongoing skirmishes for the treasure, making it difficult for the local populace to survive, leading many to flee. The arrival of a mysterious gunslinger (played by Hidemichi Ito) disrupted the balance between the Taira and Minamoto, plunging Tamataregu into further turmoil... This film won the second-best film award at the 2008 Asian Fantasy Film Festival and received awards for best art direction and best technical achievement at the 2008 Mainichi Film Awards.
