During the late Qing dynasty, as war raged and the people suffered, the eldest brother (played by Jet Li) was betrayed by his colleagues, and all his troops perished. Surviving by pretending to be dead, the eldest brother encountered Lian Sheng (played by Xu Jing Lei), who had run away from home. After spending a night together for warmth, Lian Sheng left without a word.
